Dr. VanBogelen is a research scientist who has spent over 35 years studying how living things respond at a molecular level to their environment. She has lived in Manchester for nearly 30 years where she and her husband raised their three sons. In the past Ruth focused her volunteer efforts on helping kids who learn differently be successful in school including being on the WISD Parent Advisory Committee and being a co-founder of a Manchester special education support group. More recently her focus has turned toward ensuring children learn and understand the relationship between the food they eat and the environment and have the opportunity to practice gardening. She has been a hands-on volunteer and leader for the two kids’ gardens and new Community Garden in Manchester. Ruth enjoys most outdoor activities including gardening, walking, hiking, camping, and canoeing.
